Tropes... in my story?!

Hello!

My publisher recently asked me to identify some of the tropes in my story. The video above serves as a (silly) cautionary tale; only a tiny selection of tropes are listed.

I've known a lot of authors who declare love or hate for certain individual tropes; I'm going to be honest that I think it's less about what the trope is, but how it's used in a story. Are you playing it straight? Mixing it up? How does the aggregate average look? If you play everything face up, that's boring, right? But sometimes they're so absurd you almost have to show your hand right away. Or what if there's a really good reason for that trope to be there?

What if you could just enjoy a trope because it's a trope?

Wouldn't it be nice to do that?
